Darna Zaroori Hai
Topic: Reviews
Did someone say horror? If goosebumps is what Ram Gopal Varma Inc. intended to give, then it remains just an intention. Still, don't write off Darna Zaroori Hai, we have a good old grandma who tells five tales that are gripping, if not scary. These, in addition to the first story directed by Sajid Khan.Khan makes fun of the 'cemetery fear factor' and gives a funny capsule. The other tales play on the fear associated with isolated bungalows, the quintessential bhoot in sari who asks for lift, and another one which enters a body.

Tale No. 1 has Amitabh Bachchan as a fear-stricken professor who is haunted by a 'man in a black cap'. Though there is little scope for scare, Bachchan keeps you hooked for the few minutes he appears on the screen, along with Riteish Deshmukh.

Tale No. 2 has Rajpal Yadav as an insurance agent who pesters Sonali Kulkarni and Suniel Shetty. And this is the most unconvincing sequence of the film.

Bipasha makes up for it with her Tale No. 3. She and her husband (Makarand Deshpande) try to scare their unexpected guest Arjun Rampal, but... What's the fun if we give it away?

Tale No. 4 shows Mallika Sherawat and Anil Kapoor discuss movies in a car, and then do some bhoot-talk in a Khandala bungalow. The final story has Randeep Hooda "possessed" by a "highway bhoot". And he acts it out well. The problem with Darna Zaroori Hai is that you don't get bored while watching it, but once out of the theatre, you think "what was it again!"

Gangster
Topic: Reviews
Let's give it to Hashmi this time. He knows many other things than kissing, and acting happens to be one of them.

Watch Gangster and you will also know why Shiny Ahuja carted home all those "best newcomer" awards last year. Another highlight of the film is its music, which is the best thing to happen to your ears in weeks.

Then there is new face Kangana as Simran -- with a head full of curls and a heart full of love for the two men.

Plant all the three in the breathtaking locales of Seoul and Dubai, and you have a good film whose twists in the second half make up for the glitches in the first half.

Kangana leads a lonely life with only beer bottles for company. She drinks at home and then wobbles into the bar for more. There she meets singer Hashmi who tries to crack the mystery in her life. The lady has a story to tell and once she is through, she is in the bed with Hashmi. Hashmi does what he is best at… you know what. By the way, this is supposedly his last "kissing" film. Shiny Ahuja, as the gangster on the run, is in full swing towards the end, and gives a haunting performance. What Hashmi does with his lips, Ahuja does with eyes. Silence is, indeed, golden. This gangster is more of a human, and hence emotions replace bullets. But, the fire is intact.
